THEMATIC levels:

Thematic Levels are pop-up weekly classes and not a fixed or regular part of our semester classes. They cover a specific theme, typically another dance style, or a famous jazz routine from the Lindy Hop paraphernalia. Be quick to sign up, because they might not be offered again next semester.

The classes usually spans 3-8 weeks, and the theme changes in accordance with the available teachers, their speciality or what they are excited about at the moment.

autumn 2025 will offer the following:

Blues Ballroom Vocabulary

with Ann, ida, David, Chloe — 4 classes

Blues is a partnered dance done to blues music. The tempo can vary from an up-tempo strut to a sleepy, moving hug. Blues is always evolving, and embraces everything from latin to country.

About Blues: It is hard to tell when blues started, as it was passed on and not written down, and blues dance developed alongside the music. Blues dance as we know it developed around 1915-1920 and the famous st. Louis Blues was written down around 1914, while blues music has a long history back to the african-american slaves. Sometimes the lyrics describe a mean woman who takes your money and your happiness, but rumour has it, the evil women in the songs actually describes the slave owners.

 In these classes we will get familliar with some different vocabulary you can use in your general dancing and on the social dancefloor.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE for this thematic class:

• ·Have taken classes before (in or out of Aarhus) OR ·Have taken the Blues FUNdamentals workshop on November 9th

• ·Know the bastic steps and connection

• ·Are comfortable with leading or following in blues

Ring in the holiday season by learning this fun original solo jazz routine to Nat King Cole’s classic recording of Jingle Bells! Working on routines like this is a great way to improve your jazz vocabulary and technique, as well as developing visual and memory skills that will help in your journey as a dancer.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE for this thematic class:

• Some familiarity with solo jazz steps/routines such as the Shim Sham or Tranky Doo - you don’t have to be an expert!
