THEMATIC levels:
Thematic Levels are pop-up weekly classes and not a fixed or regular part of our semester classes. They cover a specific theme, typically another dance style, or a famous jazz routine from the Lindy Hop paraphernalia. Be quick to sign up, because they might not be offered again next semester.
The classes usually spans 3-8 weeks, and the theme changes in accordance with the available teachers, their speciality or what they are excited about at the moment.
Autumn 2024 is offering the following:
Dips & Tricks
DKK 195 / 135 (student)
with jonathan & yana — 3 classes
Lindy Hop is a lot about improvisation which necessarily means creativity and silliness, but also energy and therefore flashy and cool moves. In this thematic class, we will give you tips to best practice, lead / follow but also social dance some small dips, small jumps, small lifts, small tricks, and maybe easy slides and floor-moves. We will explore how leading / following takes on another meaning when we incorporate these different moves. We aim to help you spice up your social dance a little bit.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE for this thematic class:
There will not be anything overly complicated and the class is open to all, you will find it easier if you are at ease with 6 and 8 count basics and if you are familiar with basic Lead/Follower techniques.

Collegiate SHAG
Dkk 260/ 180 (student)
With Ruta & stine — 4 CLASSES
The Collegiate Shag (or "Shag") is a partner dance done primarily to up-tempo swing and pre-swing jazz music (185-250+ beats per minute). It belongs to the swing family of American vernacular dances that arose in the 1920s and 30s. It is believed that the dance originated within the African American community of the Carolinas in the 1920s, later spreading across the United States during the 1930s.
Because the basic step takes up such a small space, the Shag can also be danced to fast music (over 300 beats per minute). The shag is still danced today by swing dance enthusiasts worldwide.
The classes will be tailored for both beginner and intermediate dancers. The focus will be on the fundamental techniques while still keeping it playful.
There will be some opportunities to brush-up your shag dance skills before the classes start. For that follow the news on our Facebook page

Stealing
Dkk 260 / 180 (student)
With rebekah & Lasse — 4 CLASSES
Jam circles are an essential part of lindy hop and stealing is a fun tool in your toolkit when being part of a jam circle.
This class is all about the use of stealing techniques during jam circles. Though not all jam circles involve stealing, when you find yourself in a jam circle where the dancers are using stealing, it is one of the most playful, and fun, social interaction you can experience at social dance.
Stealing is fun, playful and challenging. Through this class you will get the basic skill and confidence to join in and participate in jam circles where stealing is allowed.
Jam circles without stealing are an opportunity for dancers to show amazing moves or unusual styles.
Jam circles with stealing is all about fun, playful, interactions, and the focus is less on couples/solo dancers showing their skills and flashy styles.
Birthday jams are a good example of a jam circle with stealing.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE for this thematic class:
It is IMPORTANT that you are comfortable with the basic moves, like basic 8 and 6 count, Pass-by, Tuck-turn etc.
