THEMATIC levels:

Thematic Levels are pop-up weekly classes and not a fixed or regular part of our semester classes. They cover a specific theme, typically another dance style, or a famous jazz routine from the Lindy Hop paraphernalia. Be quick to sign up, because they might not be offered again next semester.

The classes usually spans 3-8 weeks, and the theme changes in accordance with the available teachers, their speciality or what they are excited about at the moment.

spring 2025 is offering the following:

more Dips ‘n Tricks

with yana & jonathan — 2 classes, 2,5 hrs each

Lindy Hop is a lot about improvisation which necessarily means creativity and silliness, but also energy and therefore flashy and cool moves. In this thematic class, we will give you tips to best practice, lead / follow but also social dance some small dips, small jumps, small lifts, small tricks, and maybe easy slides and floor-moves. We will explore how leading / following takes on another meaning when we incorporate these different moves. We aim to help you spice up your social dance a little bit.

We will cover new stuff and some old stuff with variations; so if you've joined the previous round or not, there will be something for everyone.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE for this thematic class:

• There will not be anything overly complicated and the class is open to all, you will find it easier if you are at ease with 6 and 8 count basics and if you are familiar with basic Lead/Follower techniques.

BAlboa - 2 levels in 1

With jannik & Chloe — 5 CLASSES

Balboa is a stylish, very up-tempo swing dance (can come up over 300 beats per minute) but doesn’t require such high levels of energy, due to the small steps and the close embrase of the partners. It started as early as 1915 in Southern California and gained in popularity especially during the 1930s. Like Lindy Hop it originated from the mother of all Swing dances: The Charleston. The art of Balboa is the subtle communication between the lead and follow, like weight shifts that most spectators cannot see.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE for this thematic class:

In this thematic class we will have two levels. Beginner and Intermediate. The first 3 weeks of classes will focus on beginners, while the two last weeks of classes will focus on intermediates.

• Beginner: You are a beginner with no or some balboa experience, and you are keen on learning Balboa from the basics.
  As a beginner you can attend the first 3 weeks, or the whole 5 weeks, from beginner to intermediate.
  

• Intermediate: You have attended the first Balboa thematic class or at least know the technique of both basics, out & ins, come around, toss out and lolly kicks.
  As an intermediate you can choose to attend the last two weeks of classes, though you are also very welcome to attend the first three classes as well.

Solo Jazz Improv

with Thomas — 3 classes

In this three-week Solo Jazz Improv class, you'll build confidence in dancing to swing music on your own. You'll expand your jazz step vocabulary and develop your ability to interpret the music creatively. Perfect for dancers with some basic knowledge, such as familiarity with the Shim Sham, who want to explore their solo improvisation skills without a partner.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE for this thematic class:

• No required experience, some familiarity with Shim Sham or solo jazz moves is ideal.

A series of 30’s partnered charleston classes , starting from elementary and fundamental moves such as tandem charleston and hand to hand,.We will also explore uncommon variations and spicy moves. We promise a lot of kicks and sweat. At the end of the round of classes we can guarantee that your partnered charleston vocabulary will have expanded.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE for this thematic class:

• It is IMPORTANT that you are comfortable with the basic moves, like basic 8 and 6 count, Pass-by, Tuck-turn etc.
